Miss Phillips holds a B.S. in Business Marketing, has over 30 years experience performing and over 23 years teaching piano. She began playing the piano by ear at the age of 7 and was accompanying full-time shortly thereafter. Her musical range includes performing, accompanying, directing, composing, producing and working with many professional recording artists. She was classically trained through the MTAC and NGPT, and competed at both State and National Levels from elementary through high school, finishing her senior year out by taking 1st Place Gospel Pianist for the state of California (GARBC). She studied Jazz in college and today, continues her music education while producing and pursuing work in the Professional Recording Industry.
Her teaching methods follow the Certificate of
Merit and NGPT standards, but allow room for
students with gifts to explore their creative
potential where needed. She is well versed in
Classical, Jazz, Gospel, Sacred, Rock, Pop and
Country Formats; teaches all levels of Piano
(Beg to Adv), as well as MIDI Composition
and Intro to Recording Arts. Although she
supports competitions and is passionate about
Traditional Music Education, she realizes that
not all musicians are created equal. Therefore,
her goal is to create well-rounded musicians who
can play beyond the notes - musicians who create
because they understand how music works.
“I’ve had the privilege of watching many of my students excel in their Academic settings: from Class Cabinet and Athletic Team Leadership, to Gifted and Advanced Placement programs, I’m convinced that the #1 extra-curricular outlet paralleling an
athletic activity is piano lessons.
Above all else, the strategic, whole-brain approach of learning piano will follow a child into and throughout their adult life giving them the competitive edge
needed for success.”
